Experience

I am very grateful and honoured for the trust that my community has given me for the past 8 years to strive to do the right thing for the whole community.
As a fourth-generation North Vancouverite who is proud of her heritage, I have deep roots and a passionate understanding of all that the community has to offer. I raised my two sons in Lynn Valley and I am afraid that I will be the last generation of my family that can afford to live here.
I define “affordable housing” as "attainable housing tied to income".
As an accountant, with over 30 years experience in private, public, small business, corporate, government, and investment markets, I apply my years of experience judiciously in analyzing financial information, applying decision criteria, while actively listening and taking a collaborative approach to deliver effective solutions. My experience includes 5 years in a senior finance position in the Finance Department of the District of North Vancouver.

I believe one of the most important roles for a council member is to listen to their community’s voices! This may not be the same as our personal thoughts, but the community is usually on the front line of what they are speaking about and deserve to be fully heard. Then council will do their research, reading, ask questions and execute our decision with a reasoning, clarity, and accountability for our decision.

I am so pleased that in this term our IT Department has created, a long asked for:
Council Decisions Dashboard for 2022 – 2026.

Here is where you can find the Council voting decisions To see all of Council votes by individual council members and the reasoning behind the vote for each item in a meeting, scroll to the right and you can view more votes and the attached video.

As a two-term Councillor, I will continue to focus strongly on the following areas:
• Community voices – Must be heard and have input early and often
• Housing – Diverse, “attainable”, advocate and find workable solutions for homeless people
• Transportation – Solutions to the gridlock, keep advocating for 3rd crossing bridge, highway lanes from Lonsdale to Mountain Highway, safe routes for all forms of transportation
• Infrastructure – Must catch up to our growth, replace our aging systems & assets within or financial constraints
• Fiscal sustainability – A balanced budget within our means while maintaining services
• Environmental sustainability – Enforce current regulations, protect our parklands and wildlife, continue to develop and implement climate change strategies,
• Emergency preparedness – continue to be prepared for climate emergencies ie: wildfires, floods, etc.

First elected to North Vancouver District Council in 2018, Councillor Forbes currently and previously has been involved with many council and community committees. She has been a strong voice advocating for citizens, neighbourhoods, PAC’s and the livability of the municipality.
